Its been said that Sunday morning church is the most segregated time in
American life. Not at Tenth Street UMC. By God's grace, the hard work of the
former ministers, and the warmth of the congregation, this is an incredibly
diverse congregation that represents the church worldwide.
Expect to hear Bible!
At
Tenth Street, we believe that the Bible should be central in our
worship, life, and practice. How else will we avoid the
weightlessness
and confusion of our culture? Of course we all bring a great deal to
the table when we read Scripture, but through the gifts of reason,
community, and the Holy Spirit, God's word becomes a living thing in our
midst.
Expect the unexpected!
Things are never stagnant here. The unity that we have in Christ Jesus is
celebrated in a way that accommodates diversity as well. For example, if you
don't like the music herewait five minutes, because a Bach organ prelude can
give way to dynamic praise and worship in just that long. On any given Sunday,
you may hear a choir anthem in Latin or a praise song with guitar, bass, and a
djembe. Our worship blends the best of "high church" and "low church," and it is
our hope that reverence and the spontaneity play off of one another in all
aspects of our life
together.
